About braces

Different Types of Braces

Traditional metal braces are popular with kids and teenagers. They love using different colors of ligature ties which are changed at each adjustment visit. These braces are much smaller than ever before and are very comfortable.

Self-ligating braces are an innovative clinical technology that makes orthodontic treatment more efficient and more comfortable than ever before. Self-ligating appliances have a built-in "sliding door/clip" that holds the wire in place while allowing it to slide freely back and forth.

This system allows the use of high-tech, light-force wires to achieve tooth movement. This results in less pressure to the teeth, thus more comfortable treatment. Treatment time can be dramatically reduced. This means fewer adjustments, which result in less frequent office visits to achieve treatment goals. Dr. Carcara uses the latest in self-ligating braces including the Damon System, In-Ovation and SmartClip.

Translucent Braces GAC ©

Translucent or clear ceramic braces are the most popular with adults because they are less visible and more aesthetic. However, because they are comprised of a ceramic material, they are slightly larger than the metal braces and more fragile.

Lingual braces (*ibraces™) are placed behind a patient's teeth for optimal esthetics; no one will even know you are wearing them. These braces are unique because they are fabricated using state-of-the-art technology to create a 100% customized brace molded to the shape of your teeth. With ibraces you obtain efficient and effective tooth movement in addition to optimal aesthetics. Not all patients are candidates for lingual braces. Dr. Carcara is an ibraces certified specialist and can help you determine if you are a candidate for this revolutionary technology. Call us for more information or go to www.ibraces.com.

Invisalign® is a braceless way of aligning the teeth using a series of invisible aligners made with 3-D computer imaging technology. The aligners are removable, so you can eat and drink what you want and brushing and flossing are no problem. They are also comfortable, with no metal or wires to cause mouth abrasions during treatment. Invisalign also allows you to view your virtual treatment plan when you start, so you can see how your straight teeth will look when your treatment is complete.

How Does It Invisalign® Work?

Learn about Invisalign

You wear each set of aligners for two weeks, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss. As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will move gradually until they have straightened to the final prescribed position. You will visit our office every 4 to 6 weeks to monitor your treatment progress.
